















Trijuginarayan
Around 12.5 km drive from Sonprayag, through forests and orchards, the legendary
village of Trijuginarayan lies on the ancient bridle path that goes down from
Kedarnath to Gangotri. Here, countless centuries ago, the wedding ceremony
of Shiva and Parvati took place. The fire 'Akhand Dhuni', around which the
celestial couple repeated their vows still burns as remnants being fed through
the ages.Pilgrims reverently smear the holy ash on their forheads.
Chopta
A
slice of Alps in Garhwal. Situated at a height of 2,900 metres above sea level,
Chopta, is really an astounding destination replete with splendour and awesome
natural beauty. It bears a resemblance to Swiss Alps as it nestles on the
green meadows amidst luxuriant rain forests. Chopta boasts of magnificent
views of some major Himalayan peaks. The bloom of rhododendron flowers along
the trek makes a heavenly path to Tungnath.
Tungnath
Tungnath, the highest shrine of Shiva among the Panch Kedar is at an elevation
of about 3680 mts. The arms of Lord Shiva came out as per the Kedarnath myth
at Tungnath. Enroute exotic varieties of rhododendrons, white flowres and
shrub like trees can be seen in abundance. It is at a four kilometer trek
from Chopta. From Tungnath another 2 kms trek takes you to the top Chandrashila
from where all the major peaks like Chokhamba, Trishuli, Nanda Devi, Kailash
etc. are visible at very short distances.
