Ukhimath
Everywhere the eye wanders there is pristine loveliness. In the far distance
the snow-clad peaks of Chaukhamba and other mountains appear near yet so far.
One can see the lovely Madhyamaheshwar Ganga with its emerald banks. Cradled
in these picturesque surroundings is the enchanting village of Ukhimath. Ukhimath
is the winter seat of Rawal Sahib of Kedarnath and its pujaris. The two great
temples of Chandra Sekhara Mahadev and Ardha Narishwar dedicated to Lord Vishwanath
the presiding deity of Varanasi are located here.
Kalimath
Almost
11 km from Guptkashi, on the left bank of Kali Ganga is the famous Siddha
Peeth of Kalimath. The Siddha Peeth comprises of temples made of wood and
iron surrounded by several smaller ones made of stone dedicated to different
deities - Mahalaxmi, Mahasaraswati, Gauri Shankar Mahadev and Bhairav.
Sonprayag
43 km from Guptkashi, on the way to Kedarnath, Sonprayag is situated at the
confluence of river Vasuki Ganga and Mandakani. The scene of two rivers in
the exquisite mountain setting is a treat to behold. It is believed that a
mere touch of the holy water of Son Prayag helps one to attain Vaikunth Dham
or char-dham-yatra. This small sleepy place comes to life during yatra season when
it buzzez with 'chattis' agencies, shops and coolies. One can drive 12.5 km
to Trijuginarayan from here.
